well guys on was on vacation for about 5 days in orlando flordia, i just got home. my grandma watched my babies. yesterday mikko laid an egg. Shocked she was on top of the cage and it cracked when she laid it. gram says she barked when she laid it lol. i have a picture of the egg if you need to see it, but i was wondering if i should be concerned at all about her laying an egg or if its nothing to worry about? confused

Only happy birds lay eggs....If it's a good /bad thing remains to be seen.

An egg on occasion isn't a big deal... Congratulations! You're her egg-mate! (off topic, Allie just stole a bite of Red Velvet cake I'm eating, she loves it - the little scamp!) Anyway, if you start seeing eggs on any kind of a regular basis, you'd be smart to be sure she's on a really good diet that's got plenty of calcium in it. Laying eggs really uses a lot of calcium in birds. Hopefully that won't be an issue though. Let's not cross the "egg binding bridge" unless it looks like you might be going down that road, but a single egg isn't going to be a problem. Smile

Yeah, what they said.
Cottage cheese, cuttlebone and eggs shells are easy ways to increase calcium. Just a bite of cottage cheese isn't going to hurt her. The egg shells - I keep them whenever we have eggs. Nuke them for about 30 seconds to sterilize and then crush over food.

I wouldn't give alot of extra fat, high protein stuff at this point in time. You might trigger the hormones to lay more eggs.I'd stick more toward leafy greens ,veggies that sort of stuff. One egg is not going to deplete her resources, not enough to worry.Just becareful of knee-jerk reaction and stimulating her hormones.IMO

my point is ,, not to stimulate her hormones by giving her "extra"foods.
