On the main page there is a main bar of buttons – Home, Calendar, Gallery, etc. - on this bar, find and click the PM button. Depending on whether you have any unread Private Messages, this button can change. It may say PM or New PM.

This button will bring you to your PM Inbox. Here you can read your PMs if you have any, delete them, or create new PMs. To send a PM to someone, first click one of the New Post buttons.
In the next screen, you can choose who you wish to send the PM to, add a subject, and enter your message.
The first way to choose who to send the PM to, is to enter their username into this line:
If you want more than one person to receive your PM, click the + next to this line.
If you are unsure of how the person's username is spelled, there is a way to search for it. The Find A Username button:
Clicking this button will open up a new window:
If you only know a part of the username, type that in and add an asterisk as a wildcard letter. Meaning that if I want to PM VickiNumbers, but forget how to spell Numborz, I would type Vicki* into the searchbox, and it would show me any users with Vicki as the first part of their name.

To open a list of ALL usernames, type in a single asterisk and search.
In the new PM page it is also possible to choose a username from a list of the users you are friends with. Clicking on this line will open a dropdown box with a list of your friends:
Similarly, you can choose an entire group to send your PM to.
The Subject of your PM functions like the Title of a thread or Post – It let's whoever receives your PM know what your message is about.
When you have typed in your message you can Preview it, just like a Post.
When you are happy with your PM, click Send to send it on its way.
